What is Hyperloop?
The Hyperloop is a form of rapid transportation popularized by Elon Musk in 2013. The goal is for a pod to travel in a vacuum tube at speeds up to 700 mph. This mode of transportation would allow passengers and cargo to travel between cities such as San Francisco and Los Angeles in just 30 minutes.
What is the pod competition?
Teams from around the world compete to design and build a pod that can travel the fastest down a mile-long vacuum tube at SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, CA. During the 2018 competition, we placed 1st in the United States and received one of three Innovation Awards. The SpaceX competition has been put on hold for now, but we are busy working with other student teams to realize the potential of Hyperloop technology.
Plan for 2020-2021
UW Hyperloop plans to compete in the Demonstration and Showcase category during European Hyperloop Week in July of 2021.
